Canapés for 50

I volunteer some time for a local museum and history project called the Valiant soldier… So when they needed canapés for a party of local dignitaries coming to open the new family history museum extension, then naturally we offered to help…

On the menu was a selection of 6 offerings; Buttered Cheese Scones, mini quiche lorraines, Eggs mayonnaise, a selection of crackers with cream cheese and smoked salmon, local ham and cherry tomato cocktails and locally made chipolatas.

Hardly anything left over for my lunch tomorrow )-:

An Afternoon Tea Party

Asked if we could manage an afternoon tea part for 100 guests for a wedding… The answer was of-course yes!

So… 15 loaves, 8 big cakes, 100 mini cup-cakes and more plain, fruit and cheese scones you can carry a bride over, along with lashings of ginger beer, pretty crockery, and teapots and this was the result:

Half term…time for sweeties!

It’s half term this week, which in Devon means lots of visitors! Often our guests are families and ones that want to enjoy themselves, forget diets and find something of how they imagine England was 50 years ago!

For the holidays we have designed some special cupcakes; chocolate sponge with chocolate buttercream loaded with sweeties….enjoy the cakes and your time in this beautiful part of the country!

Valentines cupcakes

Red velvet cupcakes, soaked in vanilla sugar syrup topped with either pale pink vanilla buttercream or white cream cheese frosting. Tasted lovely but Hummingbird recipes are a lot more complicated than needed!

Valentines day is always a bit of a bother!

I want to make a fuss and be made a fuss of, but don’t want to go overboard…after all I am normally still reeling from Christmas and New Year. Cupcakes seem a pretty good compromise; sweet, luscious and pretty, unique and not hideously expensive.

For Valentines Day 2011 Moorbakes are planning red velvet cupcakes with vanilla buttercream decorated with hearts and flowers.

1. You can risk it and hope you are one of the lucky customers who gets to Gifted early enough to buy your cupcakes from February 10th.

2. Order in advance. If you live in the Buckfastleigh area you can order a box of 4 Valentines cupcakes and collect them from Gifted on Saturday 11th February. We must have orders by Wednesday 9th February, to ensure we are able to create your special cupcakes. You can order using the website, email or though Lucy. A box of 4 cakes, pre ordered is £5.50.

Although Moorbakes have been very poor at taking photos there have been a couple of occasions when we have felt that a record of our creativity has been required. Below is the back date of our previous offerings….the future holds better images……

Rachels’ 18th

At the start of January Moorbakes trundled half way across England to join in the celebrations for Rachels 18th birthday. Naturally we were asked to provide the cakes.

Rachel had a theme of silver and purple and wanted chocolate and vanilla sponge so we made vanilla sponge with vanilla butter icing, coloured purple and decorated with silver stars, glitter and balls and chocolate sponge with white chocolate icing with purple glitter, purple handmade roses and other purple cut outs.
